Hello and welcome, to thrive and
grow businesses need to capture, analyze, predict and report data and
do it all with a high level of agility. Businesses are also concerned
with storage capability, ease of access to data and security. Used together, Microsoft Dataverse and
Power Platform fulfill these needs. They are easy to use and manage with
no need for complex programming. You can create a compliant,
secure and scalable data service. By the end of this lesson, you will be
able to, explain what environments, tables, columns and
relationships in Microsoft Dataverse are. Describe the difference between Microsoft
Dataverse and the Common Data Model. And explain use cases and the limitations
of business rules and process flows. In this video, you're going to explore
the world of Microsoft Dataverse. Did you know that Microsoft Dataverse
is a cloud-based data store for all your business data,
as well as a low code data service and that is an app platform as well. Data from various sources can be
integrated into this central store and made available globally for
your organization. Only authorized users will
be able to access this data, because it uses the Azure Active Directory
for authentication. The data in the Dataverse can also be used
to generate outputs such as a PowerBI dashboard to provide powerful
business insights and analysis. The Dataverse will contain one or
more databases. Dataverse connects easily to all the
aspects of the Microsoft Power Platform. This means that you can fully control,
automate and strengthen your business. Each Dataverse contains a comprehensive
collection of out of the box tables, which you can use immediately. These are called standard tables and they are designed to meet a broad
selection of business needs. You can also customize these tables and
build relationships between tables of data, which make it possible to
create powerful scalable solutions. Now that you have an idea of
what Microsoft Dataverse is, let's take a closer look at tables and
columns in Microsoft Dataverse. A table has a logical structure
consisting of various rows and columns that represent a set of data. In Dataverse, there are two types
of tables, a standard table and a complex table. So what is the difference between the two? A standard table is the base set
of tables that are created for every instance of
a Microsoft Dataverse database. Remember, you can add more
columns to any table but you can only delete columns
from a custom table. A complex table contains complex,
server-side business logic, including real-time workflows or plug-ins. Take care that if you
add server-side logic, you need to have a proper
license to use a complex table. Now that you know what tables are, let's
take a closer look at table columns and how they are used. Columns are a way to store a separate
piece of information within a row in a table. Columns have data types, this means that
you can store a certain type of data in a column that matches that data type. For example, if you have
a solution that requires dates, then you would store the date in
a column with the type of date. The number of columns within a table
varies from a few columns to 100 or more. If you need more than a few 100
columns in a table, you may want to reconsider how you are structuring
data storage for your solution. Every database in Microsoft Dataverse,
starts with a standard set of tables and columns. In this example, you can see the contact
table, which is an out-of-the-box table. You can see a list of column headings and the data type specific to
each column is specified. Always use standard tables and
columns where possible. You can rename a table if that makes the
table more understandable in the context of your solution. Remember to always review
the list of standard tables and make sure a standard table will meet your
needs before you create a new table. Well done on completing this video.
